Inept carjackers crash getaway car into road sign

Durham Police said two males are in custody after attempting to steal a vehicle from a residence and fleeing from police in Ajax.

On Monday, March 11 at about 1:30 am, members of West Division responded to a vehicle theft in the area of Snowling Drive and Rushworth Drive.

The victim observed two males attempting to steal his vehicle from his driveway and confronted the suspects who fled the area in a red vehicle, said a police statement.

Police located the suspect vehicle driving away from the area and strategically followed it. The suspect vehicle was driving at excessive speeds causing it to lose control and collide with a road sign nearby. Officers checked the vehicle and confirmed the suspects had fled the on foot.

Police, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, searched the area and located the two suspect males a short distance away. They were both taken into custody without incident.

A male, age 20 from Milton, and another male of age 26 of No Fixed Address, weres charged and held for a bail hearing. Names and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Stolen vehicle blocked

A male is in custody after he was found driving a stolen vehicle in Oshawa.

On Thursday, March 7 at around 7:45 pm, members of Central East Division were proactively patrolling an area near Mary Street and Hillcroft Street, when they were alerted to a stolen vehicle by their cruiser’s Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR).

Additional units were requested and the suspect vehicle was blocked by police. The driver and passenger were instructed to exit the vehicle and were taken into custody without incident.

A male, age 21 from Oshawa was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

A female passenger was arrested but released unconditionally.
