DRT Bus Stabbing: Police seek witnesses or other victims

Durham Police yesterday said a male is recovering after being stabbed on a Durham Region Transit (DRT) bus early Saturday in Oshawa.

On March 9 at about 3:10 am, members of Central East Division responded to the area of King Street West and Stevenson Road for reports of a male being stabbed on a DRT bus.

A male suspect approached a passenger, who was unknown to him, and stabbed him twice before fleeing the bus. Police located the male a short distance away and he was taken into custody without incident. The victim was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries, said a police report.

Officers are also investigating a second incident with the same suspect that occurred on Sunday, March 3 at around 5:45 am, in the area of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue on a DRT bus. The suspect was observed assaulting an elderly male passenger. Officers were able to locate the accused, however, the victim left the scene prior to speaking to police.

Investigators are urging anyone who was involved in an incident with this male to come forward to police.

Impaired in three-car crash

Durham Police said a male was arrested for impaired driving after causing a three-vehicle collision resulting in serious injuries.

On Sunday, March 10 at about 4:10 am, members of Central East Division responded to a collision in the area of Stevenson Road North and Bond Street West.

The suspect vehicle was travelling northbound on Stevenson Road when it crossed the centre median into oncoming traffic, striking a southbound vehicle head on. The suspect vehicle also struck a second southbound vehicle, causing significant damage.

The driver of the suspect vehicle showed obvious signs of alcohol impairment. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Parties from the other vehicles were transported to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Three attempt to steal copper wire

Three males are in custody after breaking into a telecommunications facility to steal copper wiring in Oshawa.

On Saturday, March 9 at around 12 am, members of Central West Division responded to a break-and-enter call at the Bell Canada Cable Yard located at 1235 Boundary Road, in Oshawa.

Three males broke into the facility and were stealing copper wiring. A perimeter was set up and the suspects were monitored using a DRPS Remote Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) drone. The suspects attempted to flee on foot but were stopped by police and taken into custody without incident.

One suspect, age 30 from Toronto, another, age 23 from Etobicoke, and a third, age 27 from Toronto, were charged. All parties were held for a bail hearing. Names and further details available at www.drps.ca.
