Zero to 118 near school… but please don’t tell mom: G2 driver

DRPS Traffic Services yesterday recounted the tale of a young driver who went to 118kmh from a dead stop in a school zone in front of a police cruiser.

It said an officer from DRPS Central West Division was on the road to start his shift, when he spotted the speed enthusiast.

The driver is facing multiple counts of stunt and other Highway Traffic Act charges. The vehicle (top image) was towed, and the driver’s licence was suspended.

“Of note: this was a G2 driver who was very worried about telling his mom,” said the police.

Meanwhile, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said Taunton Road between Cochrane Street and Coronation Road in Whitby was closed for a collision investigation.
