Woman killed after being hit by garbage truck

Durham Police yesterday said a 57-year-old female has died after being struck by a garbage truck in Oshawa.

On Tuesday, March 5 at about 8:10 am, officers from Central East Division responded to a call for a pedestrian struck by a garbage truck at the intersection of Bond Street West and Centre Street North.

The garbage truck was turning right from Centre Street North to Bond Street West when it struck the female pedestrian. The driver of the garbage truck, a 53-year-old Toronto male, remained on the scene, police said.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision, it added.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
