Victim assault call unravels human trafficking web

Durham Police yesterday said a male and female are in custody following a human trafficking investigation in Oshawa.

On Sunday, March 3 at about 4:15 pm, members of Central East Division responded to an assault call in the City of Oshawa. The victim was assaulted by a male and female who had forced her to work in the sex trade.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, following an investigation by the DRPS Human Trafficking Unit, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the area of Grenfell Street and Gibb Street, in Oshawa. Both the male and female suspects were located and taken into custody without incident. A large amount of cash and drugs were located in the residence and seized, said a police statement.

Investigators have concerns there may be more victims and are releasing names, photos and more details of both accused at www.drps.ca.

One suspect, age 30, and another, age 34, both from Oshawa were and held for a bail hearing.
