Elexicon will be in attendance with a Bucket Truck on static display as well as two DRPS classic cruisers. Region of Durham Paramedic Services will be there with an ambulance on display as well. Photo booths will be set up so attendees can take family pictures. There will be a few other surprises, including Santa himself!

We have taken measures to ensure your safety during this event including social distancing, said the statement.

This event is free to the public and no appointments are required.

DRPS is collecting non-perishable food, gift cards and new unwrapped toys for the Durham Regional Police Food and Toy Drive, should visitors wish to donate. It will also accept donations to the Kids Safety Village as well, as it relies on donations to run programs.

In Person Learning

The Kids Safety Village is also open for “in person” learning. There is one class per day from 10:30 am.-1:30 pm.

Students in Grades 1-4 will participate in Pedestrian Safety Class where they will learn the definition of a pedestrian, where to walk, how to cross intersections safely, the road signs and dealing with distractions. There will be an in-class portion followed by a practical demonstration at the crosswalks and streetlight in the Village.

DRPS has added a new Electrical Safety Class presented by a representative from Elexicon. Grade 1-4 students will learn about different electrical structures and what not to touch and why. The students will then go outside to identify the Village sized electrical structures.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will learn about community helpers and 911. Grades 2-4 will learn about pedestrian safety. Grade 5 students will learn about internet safety, and Grade 6 students will learn about cyberbullying and mental health.
