A 17-year-old male has been charged as police continue to look for more victims and witnesses after a male was violently assaulted during a robbery in Oshawa.
On Tuesday, July 2 at about 12:20 am, members of East Division responded to a robbery call in the area of Harmony Road North and Taunton Road East.
A large group of male and female youth were walking through a plaza parking lot when they engaged the victim in conversation. The group of youth approached the victim, who attempted to run away. The suspects caught up to the victim and assaulted him repeatedly, taking the victim’s cell phone and air pods, before fleeing the area, said a police report.
The victim was treated by paramedics on scene for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A 17-year-old male from Oshawa was arrested, charged and released on an undertaking. The investigation is ongoing.
Previous Gang Assault
Police believe the same group of suspects were involved in an earlier assault in the same area. On July 1 at around 10 pm, the victim was walking at Norman G. Powers Public School at 1555 Coldstream Drive in Oshawa when he was approached by a group of young males. One of the suspects got into an altercation with the victim and then assaulted him before the group swarmed and continued to assault the victim. He was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
