Durham Police said a male was arrested for possessing a handgun during a traffic stop in Whitby.
On Monday, July 15 at about 1:55 am, members of Central West Division initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Brock Street North and Wallace Drive.
While speaking with the driver, officers observed an open container of liquor near the driver’s seat. The vehicle was subsequently searched under the Liquor Licence and Control Act, and a handgun was located near the rear seat. The handgun was seized and the male was taken into custody without incident.
The man, age 37 from Whitby was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
