Durham Police said a handgun was located in a vehicle during a proactive patrol by officers in Ajax.
On Sunday, July 14 at about 10:20 pm, members of West Division conducted proactive liquor licence compliance at a large outdoor party in an industrial area near Monarch Avenue and Bayly Street West.
Police ensured the party had a valid liquor licence and that no patrons were operating any vehicles while impaired, said a police report.
While checking the sobriety of drivers, officers saw two males sitting in a black Ford SUV that was parked suspiciously. The two suspects exited their SUV and left the area on foot, leaving one of the vehicle’s doors open.
Officers approached the SUV and observed open liquor containers. The SUV was subsequently searched under the Liquor Licence and Control Act and a firearm was located on the floor mat near the vehicle door that was left open. Police searched the area but did not locate the suspects.
Anyone with cellphone, dashcam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Brown of West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2474.
