Man tries to choke K-9 Rogue with his collar

Durham Police on Monday evening arrested a 41-year-old male for mischief and assaulting a police dog in Oshawa.

On January 13 at 10:20 pm, members of Central East Division responded to a residence on Olive Avenue in Oshawa for a disturbance. The victim advised that the suspect was damaging furniture and smashing the windows out, said a police media release.

Officers, along with K-9, responded and attempted to arrest the male who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. During the arrest, the suspect attempted to flee and the police service dog was deployed to prevent the escape of the subject, it said.

During the K9 apprehension the subject attempted to choke the police canine using his collar. Despite this the canine maintained control of the subject leading to the arrest of the accused. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The suspect continued to act in an assaulting and aggressive manner at the hospital and he was administered Narcan, said the release.

The K-9 dog suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

 

A 41-year-old from Oshawa is charged with Mischief/Damage Property Under $5,000 x2 and Willfully Cause Pain, Suffering or Injury to an Animal.

He was later released at the hospital on an Undertaking.
