Chad Tyson, over the past month, has been hard at work painting – with the help of his daughter – a new entrance mural as people head travelling east into Bowmanville historic downtown core.
This project was born out of a passion for the community, says Tyson. Public art transforms streetscapes, boosts local pride, and creates a welcoming landmark for residents and visitors alike.
“Rather than waiting on grants or lengthy funding cycles that didn’t seem to be suitable for me, I decided to take the initiative and donate my labor and supplies to make this vision a reality,” he said.
Now he is trying to raise funds. The goal is $2,400 and Tyson has so far raised $1,585.
He was self-funding 100 per cent of the project. Funds raised through his campaign will go directly toward covering:
- About a month in his time and dedication
- High-grade exterior masonry primer and paint
- Specialized spray cans and protective clear coats
- Paint supplies, equipment, and wall prep supplies, gas, etc.
“Whether you’re a local resident who wants to support public art or a local business owner looking to invest in our downtown entrance, any contribution helps offset these artist costs,” said Tyson.
“If you aren’t able to donate, sharing this campaign or dropping by to say hi while I’m painting goes a long way. Thank you for supporting local art and helping us create a welcoming entrance to all the amazing small businesses that make up this wonderful downtown. Bowmanville is truly something special,” he added.
