New $71mn Catholic school to serve Greenhill community

The Ontario government has provided the Durham Catholic District School Board with approval to create more student spaces.

The new Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School will be located at 1001 Greenhill Avenue in Oshawa.

This project is supported by a total investment of $71,065,075 which includes additional funding of $35.8 million. When complete, the project will deliver 1,061 new secondary student spaces for local families, said a statement.

“The funding for a new replacement Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School in Oshawa is great news for our community,” said Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham. “Through this investment, we’re getting shovels in the ground to build better schools and creating opportunities for students to thrive today and well into the future.”

Paul Calandra, Minister of Education, said: “Once completed, this project will offer an inspiring learning environment that helps students prepare for the jobs of tomorrow. Our government will continue to provide the resources students need for ultimate achievement.”

The investment is part of Ontario’s commitment to invest about $23 billion to support school construction, renewal and improvement over 10 years.

1,000 New Student Spaces

“Our government’s investment will create more than 1,000 new student spaces, supporting families across Durham Region and ensuring students have access to modern, high-quality learning environments that prepare them for success in the workforce of tomorrow.” said Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence, and Security.
