New covid cases drop to 58 in Durham

Durham Health yesterday reported 58 new Covid-19 cases for December 19 bringing the region’s tally to 6,215 since the count began on February 29. Another 124 cases are under investigation.

No new deaths were announced. Recoveries stand at 5,135, up by 51. There were 850 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 8 new cases in Pickering
  • 7 in Ajax
  • 12  in Whitby
  • 9 in Oshawa
  • 6 in Clarington
  • 1 in Scugog

Thirty-three cases are hospitalized with 11 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 817 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 230, of which 197 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,794 in Ajax.

Death Toll:

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 41 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-two deaths were reported in Whitby, 27 in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Oshawa, 31 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
