New covid death takes December toll to 28

No new Covid-19 death was yesterday posted by Durham Heath for December 10. However, one new death in Whitby was added to December 9, bringing the December toll to 28. There were five deaths in November.

Durham Health reported 92 new covid cases for December 10, bringing the region’s total to 5,431 cases since the count began on February 29.

Recoveries stand at 4,443, up by 62 There were 773 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • Eighteen new cases in Ajax
  • Seventeen each in Oshawa and Pickering
  • Eight each in Whitby and Clarington, and
  • One in Uxbridge
  • Sixty cases are under investigation

Thirty-six cases are hospitalized with eight in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 737 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 215, of which 185 were in long term care homes (LTCH). All new deaths were in LTCHs.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,608 in Ajax.

Death Toll: One new death in Whitby added

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Twenty-six deaths were reported in Whitby, 22 in LTCH
Of the 32 reported deaths in Oshawa, 24 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
