Metrolinx yesterday cited a ‘threat’ to cancel the scheduled in-person public consultation meetings over the partial two-year closure of Simcoe Street in Oshawa.
There has been criticism (see below) of the closure, which Metrolinx says is needed to widen the bridge over the CPKC rail line which is being upgraded to accommodate the extension of the GO train via Courtice to Bowmanville in Clarington.
The drop-in sessions are now being shifted to a virtual format.
“Following the advice of authorities, who are currently investigating a recent anonymous threat directed at Metrolinx, we are adjusting our planned in-person drop-in sessions at local libraries on Wednesday, December 10 and Thursday, December 11 to virtual sessions and cancelling our planned drop-in session at Durham College Oshawa GO on Thursday, December 11,” said a Metrolinx statement.
“This change is being made to prioritize the safety and well-being of our staff while ensuring you still have access to the information you need,” it said.
No details of the threat were provided.
“Metrolinx remains committed to keeping you informed and available to answer questions regarding the upcoming closure of Simcoe Street,” the operator of GO Transit said.
It said the details for joining the virtual sessions are:
