Officers had to pull up in front to stop this car + more

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers had many a story to tell of traffic and drivers yesterday with roads – and vehicles – clogged with snow.

DRPS North Division officers charged a driver with speeding in Uxbridge. Normal right?

The only thing was that the driver did not know there was a police vehicle behind as he could not see back in the mirrors.

The snow was covering the rear window and both side mirrors, officers said.

The police vehicle had to pull in front to stop motorist (images top and below).

Please clear the snow off your vehicle,” they said.

DRPS West Division also reminded drivers to not forget… there are fines for not cleaning your car.

DRPS Central East Division said although plows were out, conditions on many roads were still poor. They’re working hard to clear the roads but please avoid unnecessary travel while the roads are being cleared. If you have to drive clear your entire car.

It said its officers were out on foot patrol enjoying the snow, and the beautiful scenery that comes with it, but reminded residents to “please be cautious when traveling today”.

$1,000 fine for ignoring crossing guard and…

Meanwhile, DRPS Traffic Services reminded residents that roads were poor, buses cancelled and there was increased youth foot traffic to schools.

“So if you driving around, please OBEY crossing guards,” they said while giving an example of a driver who failed to do that in the Town of Ajax (image below).

The person also had several document offences, and received more than$1,000 in fines.

“Please slow down,” officers said.

DRPS North Division officers charged a skidoo rider for failing to wear a helmet in Uxbridge.

They said the law says no person shall drive a motorized snow machine unless wearing a helmet.

Another driver charged for speeding in downtown Uxbridge. “Please slow down, especially after a heavy snowfall. It takes longer to get all our streets, driveways and sidewalks clear of snow,” officers said.

Meanwhile, DRPS Central West Division warned that the beautiful winter season unfortunately adds some temporary hazards to be cautious of, such as obscured traffic lights, as seen below on Burns Street East in Whitby.

“Drive slowly and pay close attention to reduce the risk of an accident,” it said.

DRPS also said due to overnight snowfall, there were still intersections with snow-covered traffic lights. The Region of Durham was clearing streets and lights as fast as possible.

DRPS reminded drivers to ALWAYS treat intersections as a 4-way stop, if you cannot see what colour the light is.
