Two dead in collision on Salem Road in Ajax

A 49-year-old Ajax female and a 42-year-old Whitby male were fatally injured after being involved in a head-on motor vehicle collision in Ajax.

On Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at approximately 6:05 p.m., members from West Division responded to a serious collision involving two vehicles on Salem Road near Kerrison Drive in Ajax.

It was reported that a white 2020 Toyota RAV4 was southbound on Salem Road approaching Kerrison Drive when it crossed the centre line and entered into the northbound lanes. The RAV4 continued southbound where it collided head-on with a blue 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe travelling in a northbound lane.

The female driver of the Toyota Rav4 was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old female passenger of the Rav4 was treated and transported to a trauma centre in Toronto. She has serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The male driver of the Hyundai Sante Fe was pronounced dead at the scene. A 43-year-old female passenger was extricated and transported to a trauma centre in Toronto with serious injuries.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area was closed for several hours while investigators collected evidence and canvassed for video surveillance.
