Ontario-Catholic teachers talks end, strike today

Toronto: After a day of inconclusive talks yesterday, the Ontario government and Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), are looking for a new date for the talks.

OECTA had announced a second one-day, province-wide walkout today (February 4).

Yesterday, Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), representing 83,000 elementary public school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals across the province, struck work.

The OECTA strike coincides with Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) strike today.

Clarington and Ajax have announced camps for Durham kids.

Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, said in a media statement: “Bargaining with OECTA occurred throughout today [Monday], and we are now waiting for the mediator to establish new dates.

“We remain available to meet at the negotiating table at any time, to engage in good-faith bargaining, and reach a deal that provides stability for our students and keeps them in class.”
