Oshawa one of best in Ontario for retirement

Based on a strong health care sector, Oshawa has been placed in the Top 25 best communities to retire in Ontario, in Maclean’s 2019 rankings of best communities in Canada.

Maclean’s gathered data on 415 communities across the country and compared them to find the best communities in Canada across 10 categories.

In the best communities to retire category, Oshawa ranked 24th in Ontario and 46th in Canada. For health care, Oshawa ranked 60th in Ontario and 86th in Canada.

According to the study, Oshawa highlights include:

  • annualized five-year growth rate of 1.4 percent
  • median household income of $77,415
  • property taxes representing only 2.5 percent of the average income
  • 83 family doctors and 66 specialists per 100,000 residents and 115 doctor’s offices

Maclean’s Best Communities in Canada 2019 ranked over 400 cities across the country in the following categories: wealth and economy; affordability; access to health care; population growth; weather; amenities; culture; commute; taxes; and crime. Overall, Oshawa ranked 179th out of the 415 communities included in the rankings.
