The design phase of the Bond Simcoe Urban Square is complete, according to Oshawa city officials. The project was approved as part of the 2024 city’s capital budget.
Construction is expected to commence in spring and is expected to be complete by fall, pending council approval to award the contract, said a city statement.
Phase One: Spring construction includes:
- Demolition and removals
- Site excavation
- Site servicing
- Hardscape installation
- Site furnishings
- Softscape installation or planting
- Site lighting installation
Phase Two: A public art installation in 2026.
A public sculpture is planned for installation in the Urban Square in 2026. The city invites residents to a public art open house on Tuesday, February 25 at 6:30 pm at the Arts Resource Centre, 45 Queen Street. This event offers community members a chance to meet the three shortlisted artists and view their proposals for the artwork planned for Urban Square.
