Pedestrian dragged as hit-and-run driver flees scene

Durham Police are looking for a driver who failed to remain after striking a pedestrian in Whitby Tuesday evening.

On June 28 at about 3:50 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a call for vehicle that had struck a pedestrian and took off in a private parking lot at 80 Thickson Road South in Whitby. The victim, a 23-year-old driver was in the parking lot when the suspect vehicle made minor contact with her car.

The suspect vehicle, which is described only as a brown SUV drove away and the driver ran after the suspect vehicle trying to stop them from driving off. The female was dragged and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. The victim was taken to a trauma centre and the suspect vehicle was last seen going southbound on Thickson Road, said a police statement.

There is no suspect descriptors at this time. The vehicle is described as a beige/tan SUV.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and provide statements to police. Investigators are also looking for any video surveillance or dash-cam footage from drivers in the area around the time of the collision.
