The City of Pickering and and the Town of Ajax have issued a statement on their partial ownership in Elexicon Corporation, which does not make clear if they are proceeding with the sale of their stake or not.
Pickering Councillor Lisa Robinson clarified that no sale occurred.
In a joint statement released July 18, the City of Pickering and the Town of Ajax announced that they had notified Elexicon Corporation of their “decision to conclude the Request for Proposal (RFP) process that had been initiated in July 2024.
“This notification formally concludes the process,” the municipalities stated.
The RFP had explored various options related to the municipalities’ ongoing ownership interest in the utility.
No further details were provided.
Lisa Pleased
“I’m incredibly pleased with today’s announcement that the City of Pickering and Town of Ajax have concluded the process exploring the sale of our shares in Elexicon,” said Councillor Robinson.
“As you all know, I opposed this process from the very beginning. Selling a public utility — something owned by the people — without consulting the public, holding a referendum, or even allowing open debate was fundamentally wrong,” she added (see below).
