Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan is back in office

Effective immediately, Dave Ryan has resumed his full-time duties as Mayor, City of Pickering, it was announced yesterday.

Earlier this year, Mayor Ryan took a medical leave of absence when he was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease. He subsequently received a lung transplant and spent the past five months recovering from the surgery. He is now in good health and is ready to serve the community once more, said the announcement.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank Deputy Mayor Kevin Ashe for his personal support and for the tremendous job he has done under very trying circumstances; as well as all members of council as they helped manage the city’s response to the pandemic,” said Mayor Dave Ryan. “In addition, thank you to all city staff, led by Marisa Carpino, Interim CAO, for the seamless transition to a virtual workplace. Moving forward, I look forward to building upon all of the progress that we have made over the past several years.”

Regional Councillor, Kevin Ashe, will continue in his role as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of this term of office. As such, he and Mayor Ryan will share the responsibility of attending community events, business openings, and other public functions, the announcement said.
