Plan for new townhouses in central Oshawa approved

The City of Oshawa has received an application for the construction of townhouses, for which an amendment to the Official Plan was required.

The application is to permit an accessory apartment in up to 12 end unit block townhouse dwellings on lands located generally at the northeast corner of Wilson Road South and Shakespeare Avenue, and municipally known as 570 Shakespeare Avenue.

The city said in accordance with Section 17(23) of the Planning Act, RSO 1990, c.P.13, as amended, residents are advised that By-law 145-2023 adopting Amendment 220 to the Oshawa Official Plan was passed by the Council of the City of Oshawa on November 20, 2023.

It said the land to which the Official Plan Amendment applies is also the subject of related applications under the Planning Act for an amendment to the City’s Zoning By-law 60-94 (File Z-2022-03) and for approval of a common elements draft plan of condominium (File: C-O-2022-02).

The proposed Official Plan Amendment is exempt from approval by the Region of Durham.  The decision of council is final if a notice of appeal is not received on or before the last day for filing a notice of appeal. The last day for filing a notice of appeal is December 13, 2023, the statement said.

A copy of the Official Plan Amendment and any background material is available to the public for inspection in the Economic and Development Services Department (8th Floor, Rundle Tower) at City Hall, 50 Centre Street South between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
