Equipment falls off trailer, blocks part of 401 last night

Two lanes of the Highway 401 in Oshawa were blocked for a while last night after a piece of equipment fell off a tractor-trailer, according to OPP Highway Safety Division.

It said the incident happened near Simcoe Street in the westbound lanes.

“A piece of equipment fell from a trailer. Two right lanes blocked and the ramp from Simcoe Street. Road repairs ongoing, no injuries, expect delays,” police said.

Zipping by not just one, but two police cars… at 46 over

Some motorists are so focused on their driving that they do not seem to notice the  colour, make or size of vehicles around them.

The diver in the image below possibly belonged to this category. Their only mistake was that the car was speeding way over the limit. Oh, and also, the driver passed two police cars before being stopped.

“Passing not one but two police vehicles at 46 over the limit…. interesting choice,” said DRPS Traffic Services.

The driver was charged accordingly.

“Please slow down and remember speed limits are the maximum. Passing does not give you the right to exceed the posted limit,” police said.

Impaired with child in car

Police are on an anti-impaired driving campaign during the ongoing Festive Ride.

Impaired driving impacts us all. Tonight Whitby Fire joined our DRPS Ride team in the Town of Whitby and helped spread awareness, while promoting a unified stance against such behaviour, said DRPS Traffic Services yesterday.

Sadly one driver was arrested, blowing over twice the limit with a child in the car, they added.
