Hear 911 call about driver going wrong way on 407 at high speeds

Durham Police yesterday said a 44 year-old male has been arrested for impaired driving after driving the wrong the way on Highway 407.

On Saturday, November 25 at about 11:10 pm, DRPS Communications/911 received several calls about a vehicle travelling the wrong way on Highway 407.

Reports indicated that a black Honda sedan was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 407 at Harmony Road North in Oshawa. One caller indicated the vehicle was travelling at a very high rate of speed, said a police statement.

Several units from Central East Division and the Ride team were dispatched and at approximately 11:15 pm the vehicle was located by a DRPS Ride unit. The vehicle was pulled over without incident and the driver was arrested.

The driver, of Oshawa, was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

This incident could have had devastating consequences and underscores the importance of calling 911 when you suspect an impaired driver, police said.

This call was transferred to OPP because it was occurring on a 400 series highway. The recording is the OPP dispatcher. Due to the emergent nature of the incident, DRPS communicators stayed on the line and DRPS officers were also dispatched.
