Clarington body found ‘by chance’ is known to police

Durham Police yesterday said they are investigating after human remains were found in a wooded area on Tuesday morning.

On November 28 at about 4:30 am, members from East Division were searching a wooded area near Simpson Avenue and Baseline Road in Bowmanville for an unrelated matter.

During this search they discovered the human remains. The identity of the deceased is known to police. However, investigators are still in the process of notifying the next of kin, police explained in a statement.

It did not mention why the area, next to Bowmanville Valley, was being searched. There was also heavy police presence on Scugog Street the same day.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today morning. The Homicide Unit will continue to monitor the investigation until the cause of the death has been determined. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
