Police looking for inept but gun-toting carjacker

Durham Police yesterday said officers are looking for a male who attempted to carjack a female with a firearm in Oshawa.

On Friday, June 14 at about 5:15 am, members of Central East Division responded to an attempted carjacking that occurred in a parking lot in the area of Wentworth Street West and Cedar Street.

The victim was sitting in her parked vehicle when a male approached her driver’s door and started pulling on the handle. The suspect demanded the victim exit the vehicle while pointing a firearm at her. The victim was able to quickly drive her vehicle away from the suspect, before contacting police. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries, police said.

The suspect is described as: male, White, 18-25 years-old, and approximately 5’8” tall. He was wearing a ski mask, with all black clothing.

Male Facing Break-and-Enter Charges

Durham Police said a 21-year-old-male is facing charges following a rash of break-and-enters in Bowmanville.

On Tuesday, June 4 between the hours of 5:10 am and 5:25 am, members from East Division responded to four seperate break-and-enter calls in the area of King Street West and Scugog Street. In each incident, the male suspect broke glass to gain entry into the businesses, and fled with cash from one.

Officers conducted a canvass of the area and were able to obtain video surveillance. From there, a suspect was identified and arrested.

The male, age 21 from Bowmanville was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
