List of Clarington schools where speed is being cut to 30 kmh

Clarington yesterday announced a comprehensive list of schools across the municipality where the speed limit is being reduced to 30 kilometres per hour (kmh) from fall.

Drivers will need to slow down as the speed limit in school zones on Clarington roads is being reduced from 50 kmh to 30 kmh, said a municipal statement yesterday.

It said while most schools in Clarington are located on roads under Clarington’s jurisdiction, there are some schools on regional or provincially-owned roads that are not part of this project.

New speed limit signs will be installed over the summer months, to be completed in time for the start of the 2024-25 school year.

Staff are also working on a Traffic Calming Plan to create safer roads throughout Clarington.

“Parents had valid concerns about student safety and speeding in school zones, and council listened. We’re lowering speed limits at Clarington schools along local roads,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster. “We’re using the tools we have available to do our utmost to keep our kids safer and give parents some peace of mind.”
