Doing 120kmh on Highway 401 is almost a norm, but police are not amused with drivers over that limit on a 100kmh highway.
Now that permanent roadside radars have been outlawed in Ontario, and speedsters are on the lookout for police vehicles and mobile radar officers, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Whitby yesterday said they chose to station an officer on a bridge over Highway 401.
“Whitby OPP members conducted speed enforcement on Highway401 at Henry Street in Whitby,” said a brief from OPP Highway Safety Division.
“An officer positioned on the bridge used a speed measuring device, relaying information to officers below,” it explained.
“In just 1.5 hours, 15 speeding tickets were issued,” said the OPP.
Impaired Taken Off The Roads
DRPS Traffic Services, meanwhile, said on Friday that Central West Division officers, along with Traffic Services, conducted a Ride line the night before.
it said some 200 vehicles came through the line.
Five roadside tests were done resulting in one impaired arrest. Don’t drink and drive, DRPS said.
