Police, residents team up to find missing 6-year old girl

A six-year-old child reported missing Monday night in the company of a male known to  the family, was safely located yesterday morning, Durham police said.

Its update did not mention any details about the male who was with the child.

“We want to recognize and thank everyone involved for contributing to a positive and successful outcome,” said the police while thanking the media and the public for their assistance in locating her.

One of the tools used to support DRPS’s efforts was the MCSC Rescue Child Search Alert (image below), which sends notifications directly to mobile devices when a high-risk missing child may be in the area. The alert is what users received yesterday when the Child Search Alert was activated.

Child Was With A Male Known To Family

The girl child was last seen in Durham Region on Saturday, October 3 at about 10:30 pm leaving the McDonald’s located at Whitby Mall, near Thickson Road and Dundas Street East. She was last seen with a male known to the family, police earlier said.

The two were also seen together on Sunday, October 4 in the area of Lakeshore Road East and Elizabeth Street South, in Mississauga by Peel Regional Police.

The child was reported as possibly missing on Monday, October 5 at about 9 pm.

Police had earlier released video footage of the child leaving the McDonald’s in Whitby with the man on Saturday. It also made photos of the two available. All images and videos have since been removed.
