Traffic Alert: 401 off-ramp closure at Brock + more

Durham Region has announced a flurry of road works in Pickering, Whitby and Clarington, which will impact on traffic flows.

It has announced lane restrictions on Consumers Drive and the Highway 401 West off-ramp closure at Brock Street in the Town of Whitby.

This is ongoing daytime work for curb and sidewalk replacement until October 15. Overnight paving work will be from October 15 to 31.

Lane restrictions will take place on Consumers Drive from Brock Street to 60 metres east of Sunray Street. The 401 West off-ramp at Brock Street will be closed while paving is happening on Consumers Drive between Brock Street and the Highway 401 interchange.

Lane restrictions are needed to safely complete road rehabilitation and paving, the region said.

It said bus routes and bus stops will continue to be open throughout the work. Drivers should expect delays and plan for extra time when using Consumers Drive.

Clarington Restrictions

There are lane restrictions on Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57), Durham Regional Highway 2 and Stevens Road in the Municipality of Clarington.

These are ongoing until October 31.

Lane restrictions are taking place in the following locations:

  • On Bowmanville Avenue from 50 metres south of Durham Regional Highway 2 to 200 metres north of Stevens Road.
  • On Durham Regional Highway 2 from 110 metres west of Boswell Drive to 230 metres east of Bowmanville Avenue.
  • On Stevens Road from 60 metres west of Bowmanville Avenue to 130 metres east of Bowmanville Avenue.

These are required to safely complete road rehabilitation and paving.

Pickering Lane Closures

There are temporary lane closures at the intersection on Westney Road and Concession Road 6 in Pickering throughout October.

Durham has hired D Rock Paving to complete crosswalk installation and pavement works in the above mentioned area.

The existing concrete curb will be removed and replaced. There will be new concrete sidewalks installed at all four corners, complete with tactile walking surface indicators. New asphalt, lane markings and crosswalk markings will also be constructed.

D Rock Paving will be on site in early October to start preparing for the work. The construction is  expected to finish by November 15.

The equipment used for construction might make noise and cause ground vibrations for anyone living or working nearby, the region said.

Please be careful when driving in the area for the safety of construction workers, people walking and people cycling, it said.

Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the above work schedules, it pointed out.
