On October 3rd, Clarington’s opened doors to it’s first new recreation centre in nearly 20 years inside the Bowmanville Community Complex dome.
Residents got their first chance to explore the new FIFA-sized multi-sport dome, with some 1,700 people coming to celebrate throughout the afternoon, said a municipal statement.
As some of the first to play on the new turf, visitors enjoyed family-friendly games and activities, got their steps in on the three-lane indoor walking track and signed up for fun new programs.

Darlington Soccer Club, the Clarington Baseball Association and the Clarington Knights Football Association joined the festivities, giving residents a look at how the new space will support local athletes. The dome provides a year-round place to play, more opportunities to host tournaments at home, and more space to support player development.

The dome’s premium indoor turf eliminates traditional rubber crumb infill, meaning no more black pellets coming home in shoes, socks and sports bags.
The FIFA-recommended playing surface is designed for traction, durability and safety while supporting soccer, football, rugby, lacrosse, baseball, softball, cricket, ultimate frisbee, dryland training and more.
Beyond the field, a three-lane, 370-metre walking track surrounds the dome, making it easier for residents of all ages to stay active indoors year-round. Get track access and more with new swim, skate and walk membership.

At 100,000 square feet, the dome is about four times larger than the former Bowmanville Indoor Soccer Centre, creating a space for local athletes that matches the talent and passion of the community.
Sign-up for programs begins October 13. The Bowmanville Community Complex is a cash-free facility.
