The $1.50 fare discount Presto card users got when transferring between GO/UP and TTC, is to be discontinued, Metrolinx announced.
The discount has been offered for the past three years. It was a result of the Discounted Double Fare (DDF) agreement between GO Transit/UP Express and TTC.
This agreement will end as scheduled on March 31, Metrolinx said.
The DDF was funded by Ontario government by up to $18.4 million annually.
However, it exceeded the budget by $2.6 million in 2018-19 and is projected to exceed the 2019-2020 budget by $6.7 million.
Metrolinx said it has covered a shortfall of $9.3 million since the launch of the program.
It said it will continue to work with the provincial Ministry of Transportation and municipal partners towards “more accessible and affordable” transit across the region.
However, it did not reveal any practical steps or details of the collaboration in this regard.
