Durham regional Police Service (DRPS) launched ‘Project Broadsword’ which resulted in the seizure of a huge haul of firearms and drugs.
The DRPS Gun and Gang Enforcement Unit, supported by the Drug Enforcement Unit, targeted street-level drug trafficking and firearms trafficking in Durham Region.
As a result of the investigation, 17 search warrants were executed over the past two months. A total of 20 people have been arrested and charged, including one youth, plus one additional individual who is wanted. At this point, 147 criminal charges have been laid, said a police statement.
Over $320,000 in drugs and cash were seized during the investigation, as well as three motor vehicles. Drugs seized included cocaine, fentanyl, morphine, MDMA and prescription pills, it added.
The investigators also seized seven firearms, including a semi-automatic handgun, rifles and shotguns; as well as ammunition and three air pistols. Prohibited devices seized include brass knuckles, two stun guns, pepper spray and over-capacity magazines, said the DRPS.
All individuals charged during the investigation live in Durham Region and range in age from 17 to 57.
