Three held for Durham distraction thefts

Durham Police investigators have arrested three more distraction theft suspects in connection to Project Lucid.

On December 11, 2019, investigators arrested two suspects (Stingaciu, Cucos) who allegedly distracted an elderly female while she was purchasing items at a store in Bowmanville mid-November, then stole her debit and credit cards and PIN numbers. The suspects then utilized the stolen cards to make fraudulent purchases at stores in Oshawa and Bowmanville, said a police media release.

The third suspect (Borcoi) was arrested on January 20. He also targeted an elderly female in Pickering in August and stole her PIN number and cards, and committed frauds in Pickering and Scarborough, it said.

Liliana Cucos, age 49, and Constantin Stingaciu, age 32, Catalin Borcoi, age 40 all of No Fixed Address are charged with: Theft of Credit Card; Possess Identity Information; Use of Credit Card; Fraud Under $5,000; Possess Property Obtained by Crime and Identity Fraud. They were all held for bail hearings.
