Report hit-and-run suspect of Oshawa woman cyclist

Durham Police said they have a “good description” of the suspect’s vehicle which hit a female cyclist and fled the scene in Oshawa less than a fortnight ago.

On November 22 shortly before 4 am, Christye Tingey, age 36, of Oshawa was on a bicycle crossing Stevenson Road at Laval Drive in Oshawa when she was struck and killed by a southbound vehicle. That vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

Police have identified the suspect vehicle as a light-coloured, possibly a silver SUV. The suspect vehicle will have a broken headlight, and possible damage to the driver’s side, said a media release.

At the time of the collision, the vehicle had a dark-coloured plastic stone-chip or bug deflector attached to the hood. The deflector was smashed as a result of the impact. The vehicle may have further damage to the hood. It is possible that the remaining section of the deflector has since been removed by the driver, it added.

Fled to Toronto

The intersection at Laval Drive is one block north of Highway 401. It is believed that the suspect vehicle entered onto the 401 westbound towards Toronto.

Police are requesting the assistance of the public.

“If you are a neighbor or acquaintance and know of such a vehicle, or perhaps haven’t seen a similar vehicle since the date of the collision, please contact Durham Regional Police Service. Further, Police are appealing to the driver of the SUV to seek legal counsel and contact the DRPS,” said the statement.

Anyone with information about this incident or witnessed this collision is asked to call D/Cst. Scott of the Traffic Services Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5217.
