Residents are invited to help reimagine a lot at 350 Ritson Road South in Oshawa. Regional officials stated that the initiative, titled ‘Ritson and Olive Temporary Placemaking Project’, aims to transform the property into a community space for four years before road improvements begin in 2029.
Officials from Durham Region stated that residents can visit durham.ca/art to complete a survey and share opinion about how this space could be used. It could include public art, native plant gardens, benches for community gathering, and more. The community engagement process runs until May 1.
This project is delivered under Durham Region’s Public Art and Creative Placemaking Program, which was approved by Regional Council in September. Officials stated that the program aims to enhance public spaces across Durham through art and community-driven design.
Regional representatives confirmed that after the consultation period, the region will use community feedback to develop the final design. They stated that implementation is scheduled to begin this spring.
