Robber tries to demand cash from Sobeys staff

Durham police investigators are looking for a male suspect after a robbery at a grocery store in Whitby Wednesday evening.

On February 3 at around 7 pm, members of Central West Division were called to the Sobeys on Dundas Street East in Whitby. The suspect entered the store and made a small purchase before making a demand for cash from the employee. The suspect was unsuccessful in obtaining cash and ended up fleeing on foot towards Thickson Road, police said.

The victim didn’t receive any physical injuries. Officers searched the area, with negative results.

The suspect is described as male, white, 6′ tall, slim build, in his 30’s. He wore a grey winter hat, black jacket with a hood, black pants, blue surgical mask, black and white shoes.
