Durham Police yesterday said two robbery suspects were taken into custody Tuesday evening, after being pursued by Air1.

On June 13, members of East Division responded to the area of Darlington Boulevard and King Street East, Courtice for two suspects that had fled the LCBO with a large quantity of stolen merchandise.

The suspects fled in a pickup truck at a high rate of speed, and struck a vehicle at Highway 2 and Clarington Boulevard. Police located the vehicle and a pursuit began, travelling westbound on Highway 401. The pursuit was discontinued as Air1 was available to safely follow the suspect vehicle, said a police statement.

The vehicle had sustained damage due to the collision and the suspects eventually exited the highway into Whitby, where they continued driving for a short period of time. Air1 continued to monitor the suspects while officers staged in the area. The suspects drove into a gated compound in the area of South Blair Street and Water Street where they attempted to carjack a tractor trailer. Police converged on the area and with the assistance of K9 and Air1, took the two suspects into custody.

There were minor injuries reported as a result of the collision.
