Toronto: Remember the Danforth shootings of last year?

The mass shooting was carried out on Danforth Avenue in the Greektown neighbourhood of Toronto, by Faisal Hussain, and resulted in the deaths of three, including Faisal. Reese Fallon, 18, and 10-year-old Juliana Kozis were killed while 13 other victims – ranging in age from 10 to 59 – were treated in hospital.

Yesterday, the anniversary of the tragic event was marked by Chief Mark Saunders, Toronto Police Services Chief.

“Today marks one year since the Danforth shootings, a tragic attack on our citizens and community that altered many lives forever. We would like to remember all those who were impacted and to honour the two young girls whose lives were lost. I know I speak on behalf of the Toronto Police Service and the entire city of Toronto when I say our hearts and thoughts continue to be with all the victims and their families,” he said.

“It is important that we mark this day together. This incident is a reminder of our community’s resilience. A year ago, we responded with solidarity and strength, and it is solidarity and strength that we continue with today,” he added.

Gun Violence

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, said: “Today, we honour the memory of Reese Fallon and Julianna Kozis. We also honour their families and friends, whose lives have been forever changed as a result of a senseless act of violence that occurred one year ago on one of Toronto’s most popular streets.

“Our government is committed to fighting gun violence in our cities and bringing violent criminals to justice. I also want to recognize our brave police officers, first responders and everyday citizens who rushed to the scene and put their own lives on the line to help others,” she added.
