Fines doubled along Simcoe Street in north Oshawa

Oshawa, Pickering road closures and lane restrictions

Durham Region has implemented a new Community Safety Zone around the intersection of Simcoe Street and Conlin Road in Oshawa.

The Community Safety Zone limits are on Simcoe Street between Niagara Drive/Selleck Lane and the access to the Campus Ice Centre (which is just north of Conlin Road), in the vicinity of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (Ontario Tech University) and Durham College.

The purpose of a Community Safety Zone, as designated by municipal bylaw in accordance with Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, is to identify roadways where public safety is of special concern. In Community Safety Zones, fines for traffic offences, such as speeding or traffic signal infractions, are doubled.

With a goal to create safe roadways for all users, Durham Region has also requested increased police enforcement in this area. There are also plans to install a radar speed board on Simcoe Street, southbound approaching Conlin Road.

Portion of Winchester Road East in Oshawa to be closed July 28 to August 1

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department has advised residents that Winchester Road (Regional Road 3) will be closed at the Simcoe Street intersection in Oshawa from July 28 at noon until the evening of August 1.

It is being closed to safely reconstruct the intersection.

Where: Winchester Road (Regional Road 3), at the intersection of Simcoe Street, will be closed. Simcoe Street will remain open to north/south traffic.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and construction workers.

Lane restrictions on Taunton Road for Seaton development

Theer are lane restrictions on a portion of Taunton Road (Regional Road 4) until the end of 2019

Residents will notice intermittent lane restrictions as required to safely and efficiently complete the roadwork, sanitary sewer installation and storm sewer installation to support new development.

Where: Taunton Road, between Sideline 22 and Sideline 26 (Whites Road), in Seaton (City of Pickering).

Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
