Oshawa Lakeview Park gets new accessible beach mat

Oshawa has increased accessibility at Lakeview Park Beach with the installation of an AccessMat by AccessRec, which is designed for recreation access as it makes any soft terrain accessible.

The mat can be used in a multitude of applications for individuals of all abilities, including those using a mobility device such as a wheelchair or scooter, a stroller and more. It is also highly visible and portable, allowing it to be easily removed and placed in another location should the need arise.

The mat leads from the boardwalk, across from the accessible parking spaces in the beach parking lot, off Simcoe St. S and will be available for use during Lakeview Park Beach’s summer season, effective immediately until Monday, September 2.

City staff are looking forward to feedback on the use of the mat and how future accessible improvements can be made at the city’s waterfront. Feedback can be shared with Aili Oberson, Manager, Programs and Facilities at aoberson@oshawa.ca.
