Fairgrounds, a social athletics company, yesterday announced it will open a new location in Whitby this fall. The new facility will feature six indoor pickleball courts, offering Durham Region residents year-round access to one of the country’s fastest-growing sports.
Founded in 2022 by entrepreneurs including Matt Rubinoff (founder of Stackt Market) and Drummond Munro (co-founder of Superette), Fairgrounds is on a mission to make racket sports more accessible, social, and inspiring for all ages and skill levels. The brand currently operates five locations across the Greater Toronto Area, with several new clubs—including Whitby—set to launch this fall in cities across Canada.
“As we continue expanding across Ontario, Whitby was a natural next step,” said Drummond Munro, co-founder of Fairgrounds. “There’s a strong and growing pickleball community here, and we’re excited to create a space that brings people together through movement, connection, and fun.”
Pickleball—an inclusive, easy-to-learn sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong—is celebrated for its energy and accessibility. Fairgrounds is designed to make it easy for everyone, from first-time players to experienced athletes, to jump in and play.
