Still Tackling Snow: No downtown on-street parking after 9pm

One week has gone by since the storm dumped huge amounts of snow on Durham, and the region is still struggling to cope with the clearing efforts.

Some reports say cities like Toronto will take up to three weeks after the storm to get back to normal, while others have praised the efficiency of Montreal, which has been using snow plows to remove and store snow onto dump trucks in one coordinated action.

Theere are still slush and mounds of snow alongside roads, on sidewalks, and public spaces with pedestrians, especially the physically challenged, voicing their concerns on social media.

Oshawa Overnight Snow Removal in Downtown Core

Oshawa officials announced that overnight boulevard snow removal will take place in the downtown core from February 24 to February 28. During this period, trucks will remove accumulated snow from boulevards.

To accommodate these operations, on-street parking in the downtown core will not be permitted after 9 pm. Temporary signage will be in place to notify motorists of parking restrictions. Officials also advise pedestrians to exercise caution and use alternative sidewalks where necessary. Temporary lane closures will be required during snow removal.

Oshawa officials also reminded residents that parking that interferes with snow clearing is prohibited at all times. Vehicles obstructing operations may be ticketed or towed.

Clarington Crews Continue Snow Clearing

In Clarington, municipal officials have declared an end to the Significant Weather Event, citing improved weather conditions and ongoing snow-clearing efforts.

According to Clarington’s Public Works team, crews have worked over the past week to clear heavy snowfall from roads, sidewalks, and trails to meet maintenance standards.

“While the weather alert has been lifted, officials stated that staff are still addressing snow-related concerns, revisiting previously cleared areas, and ensuring accessibility throughout the municipality.”
