Street racing threshold lowered to 40kmh over limit

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday announced that as of today it will enforce the new threshold for street racing,

It also said roadside vehicle impound is being doubled to two weeks.

“Reminding all drivers that as of midnight tonight the threshold for street racing will change to 40km/hr over the limit in areas with posted limits that fall under 80km/hr,” said a DRPS tweet yesterday.

“Roadside vehicle impoundments will double to 14 days!” it added.

Meanwhile, Ontario Provincial Police said effective July 1st, changes to the Highway Traffic Act will impact those who engage in Street Racing or Stunt Driving. It includes a lower speed threshold for street racing on municipal roads and drivers will face immediate 14-day vehicle impoundment.
