‘Spiked’ carjacker ends up on the golfing green

A 28-year-old man has been arrested following a carjacking and pursuit in Whitby on Monday morning.

On June 28, 2021, at approximately 8:24 a.m., members from Central West Division were called to the area of Henry Street and Dundas Street West for the report of a male armed with a gun who was attempting to get into vehicles. The suspect demanded a 25-year-old female victim out of her vehicle, before stealing her vehicle and driving southbound on Henry Street. Officers arrived on scene just as the suspect began speeding away and attempted to stop the suspect.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

The suspect was observed driving in a dangerous manner. Officers began to set up a spike belt in order to bring the vehicle to a stop. The suspect lost control of the vehicle, exiting the roadway and entered a golf course in the area of Lakeridge Road and Bayly Street, in Ajax. Officers engaged the suspect in a foot pursuit before taking him into custody without incident.

Shane Kindree, a 28-year-old male of No Fixed Address is charged with: Robbery With an Offensive Weapon; Pointing a Firearm; Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Offence; Possession Contrary to Prohibition Order; Flight From Peace Officer; Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Operate a Conveyance While Prohibited; Possession of a Schedule I Substance (heroin), Possession of a Weapon for Committing an Offence; Carry Concealed Weapon; Fail to Comply with Release Order and Fail to Comply With Probation Order.

He was held for a bail hearing.
