Teen caught with AK-47 rifle, Glock handgun

A Toronto teen and a 20-year-old female are facing numerous charges after Durham police officers located firearms during a traffic stop of a stolen SUV in Pickering.

On March 15 at about 1:10 am, members of West Division attempted to stop an Infiniti SUV after noticing the license plates that were attached were reported missing. The stolen vehicle was stopped by officers on Kingston Road near Dixie Road in Pickering, police said.

The male passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. With the assistance of the Tactical Support Unit and K-9, the 15-year-old male was taken into custody. Officers arrested the female driver and seized a loaded AK-47 rifle and a loaded Glock handgun, it added.

Naima Kanamugrie of Rathburn Road in Mississauga and a 15-year-old male from Toronto face a combined 40 firearm-related charges, including: Careless Storage of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm with Ammunition; Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered; Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device and Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000. They were both held for a bail hearing.
