Community rallies around Ajax man with brain cancer

An Ajax man known for dropping everything to help friends, family, or even strangers is now facing a battle of his own, and the community has already rallied to support him.

Walter Wallace was diagnosed with glioblastoma (an aggressive type of brain cancer) last October, and has since faced a fall, a stroke, and five pulmonary embolisms that have left him unable to walk or use his right arm. He has spent three weeks in the hospital and even after going home has been confined to his bed due to the extent of his medical issues.

His wife Lisa, has started a GoFundMe to help support the costs for his treatment and recovery.

$70,826 of the $35,000 Raised

And the community has already raised $70,826 of the $35,000 target.

“Saying thank you is not enough. We promise to pay this forward. With love and gratitude,” said Walter + Lisa.

Lisa states that her goal isn’t for Walter to just survive, it is “to give Walter every opportunity to be comfortable, safe, cared for and, hopefully, to regain as much independence as possible”.

In order to do this funds raised will go toward home care equipment, therapy, and medical transportation not covered by insurance. Below are a list of the few items Lisa and Walter will need to care for him at home.

They will need:

• A hospital bed
• A sit-to-stand support apparatus
• Potentially a Hoyer lift
• A wheelchair ramp
• A stair lift
• A wheelchair
• Additional private care and physiotherapy
• Transportation to his medical appointments
