Firefighters rescue two teens from fire in Bowmanville

Clarington Emergency and Fire Services responded to an early morning fire in Bowmanville on Vail Meadows Crescent, rescuing two teenagers from the home.

The call came in just after 6:30 am on Wednesday and crews arrived on scene to find two people trapped inside the basement. Firefighters quickly entered the home and safely rescued two teenagers while crews worked to extinguish flames on the second storey. EMS assessed the teens, who were not injured by the fire. Three other occupants were not home at the time of the blaze.

The home sustained extensive smoke and fire damage to the second floor, attic and roof, as well as water damage to the lower levels. Five trucks were called out with approximately 25 firefighters on scene to assist. Three of Clarington’s fire stations were activated. Firefighters were not injured while working to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Clarington’s Fire Prevention Officers.

“It is imperative that all residents have working smoke alarms on every level of their home and outside all sleeping areas,” said Clarington Fire Chief Gord Weir. “Check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms every month and practice your home fire escape plan regularly. It could save your life,” added Chief Weir.
